The Noble Quran, the holy book of Islam, serves as a detailed guide for humanity, helping believers navigate through life’s many distractions. One of the most frequently discussed topics in the Quran is charity and spending for the sake of Allah. In this blog, we will explore five Quranic verses that show the significance of charity and spending for the sake of Allah.

A Command From Allah

O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you before there comes a Day in which there is no exchange and no friendship and no intercession. And the disbelievers – they are the wrongdoers.

Quran 2:254

On the Day of Judgement, no one will be able to bargain on behalf of himself or ransom himself with any amount, even if it was the earth’s fill of gold; nor will his friendship or relation to anyone benefit him. So out of His mercy, Allah commands His servants to spend for His sake, in the path of righteousness, from what He has granted them, so that they acquire and keep the reward of this righteous deed with their Lord and King.

Multiplied Rewards

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allāh is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allāh multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Quran 2:261

This verse gives us an example that is easy to understand and shows us that Allah `grows’ the good deeds for its doers, just as He grows the plant for whoever sows it in fertile land. The outcome is that one who spends in the way of Allah receives in return on the scale of one to seven hundred, that is, spending 1 pound could bring the merit of 700 pounds. Subhanallah! Allah’s Favour is so wide that it encompasses much more than His creation. Click here to donate now and reap the rewards of your generosity up to 700 times.

Allah’s Promise to Give Back What You Spent

Not upon you, [O Muḥammad], is [responsibility for] their guidance, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And whatever good you [believers] spend is for yourselves, and you do not spend except seeking the face [i.e., approval] of Allāh. And whatever you spend of good – it will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

Quran 2:272

We must remember that whatever we spend in charity ultimately benefits ourselves and should be given solely to please Allah. Allah does not need our charity, as it does not benefit Him; rather, it is for our own benefit, as Allah rewards us for our charitable acts. Allah concludes the ayah with a promise that whatever good we spend will be returned to us.

A Means to Attain The Good Reward

Never will you attain the good [reward] until you spend [in the way of Allāh] from that which you love. And whatever you spend – indeed, Allāh is Knowing of it.

Quran 3:92

Allah encourages the believers to spend for His sake what they love and from this they will attain the good reward. A believer should not be giving out spare items that are useless or worthless as if they are trying to get rid of the burden of charity or as if charity was some sort of punitive tax on them. In charity, what counts is sincerity, so we should strive to be sincere in what we give, give only for the sake of Allah, and give things that we love and not things that we no longer have use for.

Doing Business with Allah

Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allāh a goodly loan – it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.

57:18

What does it mean to loan Allah a goodly loan? In his tafseer, As Sa’di explains that this means giving from our wealth to charitable causes, the rewards of which will be stored with our Lord. This is undoubtedly the best business anyone can engage in. Why? Because we are doing business with The Most Generous. Whatever we loan to Allah, He will multiply and pay us back, as a good deed earns a tenfold reward, up to seven hundredfold, and even more. Subhanallah! Start a business with Allah by donating here.

The rewards for giving in the way of Allah are immense, with the potential to multiply our good deeds many times over.
